Expressionistas and School Uniforms

* * *

Many schools require students to dress in a certain way while they are in class. Perhaps yours does too. Some dress codes are very strict. They require a specific skirt (and skirt length), shirt, and blazer or sweater. Other dress codes are relaxed. They might say something like students must wear a school polo shirt but with any navy, black, or tan pants. Uniforms and dress codes don’t matter to an Expressionista. She knows she can still express herself, no matter what the rules say. Here are some of the possibilities:

* headbands, clips, and other hair accessories

* ponytails, pigtails, braids, updos, buns, chignons, bangs, no bangs, long bangs

* tennis shoes, flip-flops, sandals, loafers, wedges, platforms, ballet flats, jelly flats

* colored or patterned tights, mismatched socks, shoelace charms

* nail polish art

* handcrafted wallets and purses

* jewelry, especially bracelets, necklaces, and earrings—handmade or in multiples

* lanyards and backpacks decorated with pins, charms, decals, appliqués, stickers

* locker decorations, including small, battery-operated chandeliers
